SDACT
Who? What? Why?

The Scranton
Diocese Association of Catholic Teachers is an organization
consisting
of unionized elementary and secondary lay teachers working
for
the welfare of its members and the students served in those members'
schools. SDACT has been in existence since 1981.
In
the structure and successful operation of Catholic schools, the lay
teacher
is central. Good lay teachers make good schools. The Catholic lay
teacher,
for example, not only knows how to direct the spiritual, educational
and
personal development of children in the classroom, he/she also joins
with
his/her colleagues in an effective organization to advance the
interests
of teachers, students and schools through collective action. That is
why
SDACT has made the development of collective bargaining one of its
prime
responsibilities. The passage of educational choice legislation is also
prominent among its activities.
SDACT
is a democratically run organization, controlled by its members and
responsive
to their needs. Through its headquarters in Wilkes-Barre, SDACT is committed to achieving justice and
dignity
for Catholic school teachers throughout the Scranton Diocese.
SDACT
is an affiliate of the National
Association
of Catholic School Teachers - NACST. SDACT President, Mike Milz,
also
serves as Executive Vice President of the NACST.
