SDACT AGAIN ASKS BOARDS TO ACT ON RECOGNITION REQUEST

December 19, 2007

On December 10, SDACT  wrote to each of the System Boards of Directors regarding the issue of recognition of SDACT as the bargaining agent for all teachers in the Holy Cross, Holy Redeemer and St. John Neumann regional systems of schools.  This time, we demanded to be told by January 10, 2008, the manner by which SDACT might achieve recognition—either by being granted voluntary recognition by the employer, or via the presentation of signed authorization cards to a mutually chosen neutral party or, finally, through a secret ballot election.  As soon as we receive the replies, we will take whatever means necessary to expedite the process.

As we come close to hurdling our first obstacle - gaining recognition, we ask all members to continue to support our efforts.  Often, It might have seemed as if our goal appeared to be eluding us as the year progressed without a contract.  But take heart, while we have bent over backward to accommodate the logistical problems of creating the regional school systems, we will never abandon our God-given union rights.  If we need to prompt those in charge to acknowledge these rights, we know we can count on you, as we always have, to line up on the side of the angels.
